Situated just across the River Plate from Buenos Aires and accessible by hydrofoil, Uruguay is an interesting destination that can easily be combined with a boys’ rugby or football tour to Argentina.
Football is by far the most popular sport played by all and many of its nationals play their game in the European leagues as well as in Brazil and Argentina.
Although less dominant, rugby is gaining in popularity and with the arrival of the Springboks, All Blacks and Wallabies to Buenos Aires as part of the Rugby Championships, there is little doubt that the sport will continue to gain momentum across in Uruguay.
The capital, Montevideo, is well worth a visit with its imposing architecture and a lovely Old Town. Further afield a beach stay at Punte del Este is perfect for relaxing at the end of a long tour.
