2020 saw in a Global Pandemic like no other in recent history. It has affected all of our lives in many ways, from domestic changes to our working & homes lives, to a ban on international travel. Whilst the many amazing scientists, doctors and other key workers across the world have battled hard to manage the pandemic, the world of travel has been required to wait patiently until it is safe once more to open its boarders to keen travellers.

With effective vaccines being rolled out across many countries, now is the time to look forward to a future where travel can resume once again.

Here at Living With The Lions Sports Travel (LWTL) we have been eagerly following, monitoring and reviewing guidance from the British Government including The Department of Education and The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) as these key departments steer the recovery of international travel. In addition to their guidance, LWTL have kept abreast of the hard work conducted by The School Travel Forum (www.schooltravelforum.com) which LWTL are members of. The STF have worked tirelessly during the Pandemic to get the voice of school travel operators heard in government, as well as construct, in accordance with the advice from travel risk management specialists, best practice guidelines on how to open up travel safely. Support and guidance have also been provided through our membership with ABTA and our close relationships with the many Tourist Boards working hard to help support the commencement of safe overseas travel.

What we are doing:

  • Continued supplier health & safety assessments, with additional and specific reference to COVID-19 risk management.
  • Continued contractual developments and operational review of suppliers to ensure maximum COVID-19 protection is in place
  • Monitoring and reviewing Government, ABTA and STF best practice guidance as it is released and as the pandemic evolves, to ensure our own Safety Management System is up to date and reviewed accordingly.
  • ABTA, ATOL, STF and Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) members
  • Monitoring FCDO and local Tourist Board advice so we are up to date on destination restrictions and or protocols for travel .
  • Financial Protection for our customers. When booking a package with LWTL you are fully protected through ABTA and ATOL .
  • Personal and frequent communication with our customers. LWTL prides itself on working closely with our customers to ensure they are always fully informed.
  • Flexibility – where possible LWTL will work with customers to offer options and itinerary changes where needed, should the pandemic affect bookings.
  • Flexibility – where possible LWTL will work with customers to offer options and itinerary changes where needed, should the pandemic affect bookings.

We are committed to ensuring safe, fun, and exciting sport tours for all and look forward to working with you when you are ready.

ABTA

ABTA1 - COVID 19 - LWTL will be ready when you areABTA is the UK’s largest travel association, representing travel agents and tour operators and lead the travel industry in supporting high service standards, high health & safety practices, and promoting responsible tourism at home and abroad. Living with The Lions Sports Travel (LWTL) are members of ABTA – Member number: Y6520. This means that in the unlikely event that LWTL goes out of business, you’ll be able to continue your holiday as planned or get your money back.
For more information about ABTA please see the following website: www.abta.com

ATOL

ATOL1 - COVID 19 - LWTL will be ready when you areATOL is a financial protection scheme for holidaymakers managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). All travel companies selling air holiday packages and flights in the UK are required by law to hold a licence called an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL), which is granted after the company has met the CAA’s licensing requirements. Each ATOL holder is issued with a unique ATOL number, which can be checked on the ATOL website. ATOL carries out checks on the tour operators and travel organisers it licenses, and requires them to contribute to a financial guarantee scheme called the Air Travel Trust (ATT). This scheme provides the funds to protect customers should a firm fail. In some cases a licence holder will also provide a bond, which is lodged with the ATT and provides additional funds. In the event of an ATOL holder’s failure, the ATOL Scheme ensures customers who paid and contracted with the ATOL holder for an air holiday package or a flight, do not lose the money paid over or are not stranded abroad.

YOUR FINANCIAL PROTECTION: When you buy an ATOL protected air holiday package from us you will receive a Confirmation Invoice confirming your arrangements and your protection under our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking.
For more information about ATOL please see the following website: www.atol.org.uk

STF membership is the benchmark for good school tour providers; consequently it is an Awarding Body for the prestigious Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. The Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP) endorses the Quality Badge and requests Local Authorities to recommend the use of Badged Providers and require the minimum of additional paperwork where Quality Badge accreditation is in place. This means that you can book your trip with confidence, meet your due diligence and reduce the amount of External Provider paperwork necessary.

LWTL Raise £3000 for Tripavi in Sri Lanka

Fundraising for our friends in Sri Lanka

In support of all of those who work so tirelessly on behalf of LWTL and our clients in Sri Lanka, we set up a fundraising event for Tripavi also known to some as Butterfly Vacations. We are delighted to report the money has been so well received and the distribution of the funds raised for our friends has begun. Sri Lanka is a wonderful country to visit with great service, kind and generous people and we look forward to tourism in Sri Lanka returning to the levels it once was.

A small act of kindness goes along way

Hiran Gunasekera, Managing Director of Tripavi, takes up the story, “The recent events in our paradise island have shaken us and left us reeling for some time after the incident but as much as we can be saddened, we are an island nation able to swiftly bounce back in solidarity. The support of our friends Living With The Lions Sports Travel and their clients has helped to remind us that despite these challenges, Sri Lanka remains an island that warms to anyone who sets foot in it and as always remains to be cherished.”

“Here are some pictures Vishal & myself making a donation to the ground caretaker at the Colombo hockey pitch. His name is Raman, he does an amazing job when hockey groups are in town. He was so happy to receive this cash donation.”

“A small act of goodness this evening was possible with your support.”

Donations to the Guides and Drivers

Hiran and his team donated some of the funds to Guides & Drivers. They play a crucial role in ensuring that tourists have a wonderful visit in Sri Lanka. A number of drivers and guides found themselves without work as tourist bookings were cancelled due to the incident at Easter. Some drivers found themselves in financial difficulty and unable to find the funds to lease their vehicles, essential to maintaining their livelihood. Tripavi selected a number of people who would benefit from the donations raised. Here are some images of some presentations made.

First Aid Training

Using the funds donated Tripavi recently organised a First Aid Training program with the support. The program was conducted by St. John’s Ambulance International one of the pioneers in first Aid in Sri Lanka. The first batch of the team were trained on the first day on how to handle emergency first aid and the safety of our clients. Hiram added, “Even though most of the team already had a basic knowledge of first Aid, we felt the need to update and upgrade their knowledge in order to provide nothing but the best to our clients.”

LWTL Thoughts With Sri Lanka

We are deeply saddened by recent events in Sri Lanka, which have shocked a very happy nation as we knew it before. We have been in touch with our local partners, their families and those who we had the pleasure of meeting on recent tours and we are pleased to say that everyone is safe and well.

Our immediate thoughts are with those affected by this tragic event and we would like to offer our continued support by remaining positive about Sri Lanka and give the communities some time to heal. LWTL look forward to touring to Sri Lanka in the future.
