John Bentley (born 5 September 1966) is an English former rugby league and rugby union wing three quarter. He is also known as 'Bentos'. Originally a union player, he made his England debut against Ireland in 1988 aged 21 and played on the summer tour against Australia. He played for Great Britain at league and signed for Leeds RLFC, before moving on to Halifax RLFC (later the Blue Sox) as well as enjoying a short spell in Australia with Balmain. When union turned professional he signed to union side Newcastle Falcons in 1996, helping the side to their first and so far only Premiership title. He was then selected for the 1997 British Lions tour of South Africa, where he played in the second Test against James Small. Famously Small refused to shake Bentley's hand after the game! After the tour he played twice more for England at rugby union before switching back to rugby league with Huddersfield Giants. He is an Honorary President of the rugby charity Wooden Spoon improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Britain and Ireland. He is delighted to be coming on his second tour with LWTL.
Robert Jones (born 10 November 1965 Trebanos, Wales) is a former Welsh rugby union footballer and a rugby coach. He was capped 54 times for Wales during his career, at that time a record. Jones attracted widespread admiration during his playing career for his invention and the quality of his passing, which was often referred to by pundits as the best in the world. In addition the accuracy of his box-kicking from the base of the scrum or line-out was a potent weapon, used to best effect during Wales' 1989 victory over England at Cardiff Arms Park, and the subsequent Lions tour to Australia. His attractive style of play earned him many invitations to play for the Barbarians in addition to his club and international selections. In 1989 Jones was part of the victorious British and Irish Lions tour to Australia, enjoying some memorable confrontations with the Wallabies' scrum half Nick Farr-Jones. In 1993 he toured New Zealand with the British Lions. Jones retired from international rugby after the 1995 World Cup in South Africa, and from all rugby in 2001.
HOSTS
Patrick Arnold
Started Living With The Lions in 2000 in order to follow his passion for rugby and cricket. Played fullback at school and university but could only dream of playing for the Lions so started the travel company to follow them instead!
Brett Lingley
Brett struggles to hide the fact that he is a Springbok supporter. Big enough to play for the Natal Sharks but prefers bodyboarding or winning money from friends on the golf course (8 handicap for the record!)
Jo Overy
First to admit she didnt know too much about rugby until she joined Living With The Lions but now is a regular on Falcons trips to Europe and a keen fitness fanatic. Promises to take training runs on the beach.
Rachel Barber
Having hosted the 1997 Lions tour to South Africa Rachel is looking forward to returning with Living With The Lions in June 2009. She is a keen runner, hockey player and a Gloucester rugby supporter.
Rhodri Davies
Rhodri talks a good game covering rugby all over the world for BBC Wales, ITV and S4C. He played for Cardiff Schools and Randwick Club in Sydney under Campo and the Ella brothers (but quite a long way under, mind …!)
Garrod Musto
(Or Mr Musto to you), is a teacher of rugby and maths at Kingswood School in Bath for the past 14 years. In his day a dashing three-quarter for the Cross Keys and Monmouthshire but unless Wales are playing Garrod now prefers coaching or refereeing the kids.
Gareth Gammon
Gareth from www.navigate-design.com claims to be the leading try scorer for Petersfield Vets this year. This surely tops his previous rugby achievement of having played for Germany Colts vs France Colts and losing 89-0! Sky have also been known to ask gareth for expert rugby analysis as witnessed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYSqQGjoJ2E
