The International Cricket Council (ICC) is trying to come up with a solution to end further doubts about Sri Lanka’s Test tour to England which was due to happen early next year. The Indian Premier League is starting at the same time and it is believed that the dates are going to clash.
Discussions are going on between the England Cricket Board (ECB) and Sri Lanka to come up with an appropriate solution.
Sri Lanka were due to tour England early next year in April and May. The main issue is that many of Sri Lanka’s leading players are very keen to play in India’s Twenty20 league and it is scheduled around the same time. Sri Lanka’s sports minister is very keen for their players to play the Twenty20 league as India is planning to sign a multi-million dollar package with Sri Lanka.
ICC spokesperson Lorgat said that they would love to see them protecting the primacy of Test cricket as well, as it is very important for them to have bilateral tours continuing. He would hope people to take the big picture into account.
The ECB has lately been in talks with the West Indies Cricket Board about the possibility of a West Indian side taking Sri Lanka’s place.

Sachin Tendulkar was rested for the first three one day internationals between India and England. The series began on the 14th of November at Rajkot.
Sachin Tendulkar had played a prominent role in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia and he will now be playing the 4th ODI in Bangalore on 23rd November. Sachin has not played any limited over international cricket since the tour of Australia earlier this year.
Murali Vijay, who made his Test debut against Australia in the fourth Test at Nagpur, may get a chance to make his one day international debut. Vijay was India A’s leading scorer in the recent two match series against New Zealand A and was preferred to Subramanian Badrinath.

Cricket has always been a competitive and challenging sport and it is no surprise that it is the second most loved sport in the world after football.
The recent date clash regarding Sri Lanka’s tour of England and the Indian Premier League may soon be solved with the ICC coming up with a date and a solution soon. Since this is a bilateral tour, there are ongoing discussions between the Sri Lankan and the England cricket board and they will hopefully confirm a date soon. The tour was expected to happen in April and May. However, with many players wanting to play in the IPL around the same time, discussions are ongoing.
Sri Lanka themselves had been contacted as replacements for Zimbabwe and this may potentially be a stumbling block. Being as Sri Lanka weren’t scheduled to play in England in 2009 according to the future tours programme, the owners of the IPL can use this as a defence for wanting Sri Lanka’s star players to appear in their tournament instead.

England are hoping to take major steps towards developing their team, so that they can present themselves as strong contenders for the next World Cup. However, the one-day series against India has begun with two losses.
The team was all charged up after the energetic and vibrant performances that helped them secure an emphatic 4-0 NatWest series triumph over South Africa. This Indian tour under is the first under their new captain, Kevin Pietersen.
Having defeated a South African one-day side that was recently rated as the top one day side in the world, England should not lack confidence during their 19 day tour of seven one day internationals.
England have also recently exceeded expectation by winning in Sri Lanka last winter. As they have developed into a good side, the upcoming series could be a good one despite the early setbacks.
India is a formidable side on the home soil. You can still go on a cricket tour to India with your family or friends to enjoy this series. An Indian cricket tour would be a memorable experience. India is a vast country and apart from cricket tours there are a lot of other things to look forward to.

They say that seeing is believing, so is there a better way to teach young ones all about a sport than by having them watch it? Come November 14th, England’s cricket team will face India head-on in a seven match one-day international series which will be followed by a two match Test series.
This will be Kevin Pietersen’s first overseas tour as captain of the English cricket team. Expectations for Pietersen are high after he led the team to a 4-0 victory against South Africa in the NatWest Series.
The England squad to tour India includes Graeme Swann, who claims that Indian pitches will be ideal for him to unleash his full potential.
However, Michael Vaughan will not be included in the Test squad. National selector, Geoff Miller, commented that his “place in the Test squad cannot be justified”. The final names for the tour are as follows:
* Kevin Pietersen (captain)
* James Anderson
* Ian Bell
* Ravi Bopara
* Stuart Broad
* Paul Collingwood
* Alastair Cook
* Andrew Flintoff
* Steve Harmison
* Samit Patel
* Matt Prior
* Owais Shah
* Ryan Sidebottom
* Graeme Swann
* Luke Wright

After the rain washed away England’s dream of a 5-0 win over South Africa in the NatWest Series, English spirits were shining - and rightly so. Kevin Pietersen’s outstanding leadership as captain had made the country proud of its cricketing legacy once again.
After a mind-blowing performance by the entire team, especially Andrew Flintoff, Pietersen stated that the team would not get to stand and admire themselves. His intentions are clear. After a triumphant victory in the NatWest Series, Pietersen said:
“Playing against a good side like South Africa in a one-day series you’re obviously an underdog, but the way the players have come out and played and practised has been absolutely exceptional.”
Now with matches against India coming up in November, the team needs to get everything in place for their first overseas tour under Kevin Pietersen’s command, making this a landmark series. England also tour the West Indies in February 2009 and South Africa in December 2009.
The future looks promising with a determined Pietersen at the forefront. “I don’t settle for mediocrity. I want the guys to perform, to chuck their talent around and to be the best people they can possibly be,” he said.
As the England gears up for the challenges that lie ahead, you too need to gear up to support them through all their endeavours. The best way to do so is on a cricket tour - following your team from city to city as they battle it out on international soil. Tours are available with reputed cricket tour organisers. James Simpson-Daniel has no choice but to take a break due to his ankle injury. The 26 year old will have to go in for surgery after sustaining damage to his ankle ligaments. This also means that he is out of England’s Autumn tests, as the whole process will take about three months. Even his team mate Luke Narraway will probably be sidelined for England’s first game against the Pacific Islands due to a hamstring injury. Both the players were injured playing with Gloucester during the match against Cardiff in the Heineken Cup.
Simpson-Daniel is quite a talented player and even won the Guinness Premiership player of the season last year, so this is quite a setback for him, especially since he was in great form this season. His numerous injuries and illnesses have also restricted him in the past, as he has been restricted to just 10 England caps. Simpson-Daniel’s replacement for further rugby tours will be announced by team manager Martin Johnson by Friday.
Gloucester has had it quite rough recently. Not only did they lose out on a chance to win the Heineken cup, but also suffered losses to their backline, again, due to various injuries. Simpson Daniel’s injury could not have happened at a worse time for them.
