Cipriani to replace Wilkinson
October 16, 2008
Johnny Wilkinson’s recent knee injury will keep him out of the coming Six Nations Championship, but all hope is not lost for England’s rugby team, as Danny Cipriani will most likely take his place. Cipriani had previously replaced Wilkinson in the last Six Nations Championship, but an ankle injury had kept him from playing in the off-season tour to New Zealand.
Although Wilkinson is known to be a great player, he has been plagued with injuries to various parts of his body in the recent past, the latest being a dislocated left kneecap. Although the head coach of the English team, Martin Johnson acknowledges Wilkinson’s skill as a seasoned player, he is pleased with Cipriani’s efforts to get back to full fitness, and is happy to have him back.
Critics say that having Cipriani on the team will be a refreshing change from Wilkinson’s playing style, which is considered by many as introspective. Cipriani has also been put up as this year’s new poster boy, as many consider him to be a fresh face, although the 20 year old has had a lot less experience than the more seasoned Wilkinson.
